What is integrated smart farming? For us it’s bringing together the farming, harvesting, post-harvest processing, packaging, logistics, warehousing all the way up to e-commerce retailing.

Crops are grown, harvested and delivered to stores with an integrated system that ensures superior freshness and quality for consumption.

It begins with a smart greenhouse

Our smart greenhouse infrastructure is set up to optimise the growth of crops. It includes the antechamber, germination room, a biofiltration system and water management system within a structure which creates the best environment for better yields. Crops are grown with the Deep Flow Technique (DFT) Hydroponic system, where nutrients are delivered directly. The greenhouse manages climate and microweather, temperature as well as water supply via an AI led control system. This minimises the use of resources while ensuring efficient and effective crop growth.

Fresh to the fork

An integrated smart farming system doesn’t end at harvest. With the latest technology, we’ve developed Gen-2 technology that used chilled air from our post-harvest processing in our farms’ climate control. We’ve integrated the packaging, logistics, warehousing all the way up to e- commerce retailing (via B2B and B2C platforms) to optimise the process and ensure quality control. Harvests are kept fresh, the yields are delivered quickly, and the process contributes to farm sustainability.

Traditional farming is dependent on various factors including labour, crop rotation, weather and a longer growing period for a sizeable yield. High input is required from the farmers in terms of germination, water management, temperature, and fertilisation.

Precision farming is the science of improving crop yields and assisting management decisions using advanced sensors and analysis tools.

These tools help farmers optimise inputs such as water and fertiliser to enhance productivity, quality and yield. Additionally, it reduces the waste of resources in the farming process.

We set up farms with components of precision farming including smart greenhouses, training certified growers, setting up the control system and setting up an integrated smart farming system. Each of these systems have been carefully researched to advance and optimise farming. For example, the smart greenhouse monitoring systems can control, automate and detect plant growth.

The infrastructure includes the antechamber, germination room, biofiltration systems, Deep Flow Technique (DFT) methods of growing as well as water management. A control system with IOT and AI technology ensures that each plant gets the exact amount of water and nutrients needed without heavy input from the farmers.

This automation is the first in Malaysia with our own internally developed technology.

It utilises precision farming, smart greenhouses and an integrated farming system that includes post-harvest processing, packaging and logistics. Malaysian Farming, Dutch Technology

Traditionally, farming requires a high amount of input from farmers and growers. Crops require water and fertilisation at the right time and in the right amounts to optimise growth.

They require precise temperatures to ensure better yields and to reduce losses. In generations past, the farmer and his team would have to walk through the fields, tending to the crops and making sure that they were growing at the right pace. It was a labour-intensive task which required all hands-on board.

Intelligent Farming, Incredible Results

Imagine better quality yields with fewer resources. Each crop managed by artificial intelligence and an IOT system that controls water, microweather and climate conditions, power supply and nutrition. Idea Company has collaborated with Hoogendoorn Growth Management, one of the global leaders in horticulture automation. The collaboration will give Idea Company greater access to smart precision farming technologies including process automation systems in greenhouse horticulture. This technology will help Malaysian farmers have greater output of food production while reducing manpower dependency and improving efficiency.

The AI technology also controls the quality of the crops by detecting the crop health. Each individual plant is monitored for various factors, which are then addressed by inputs from the system and certified and trained growers. Through data analytics, farmers can identify areas that need fertilisation and water. It’s the first of its kind in Malaysia, a technology developed by Idea Company and our partners.
